IMPHAL, Aug 25: A joint security operation involving the Assam Rifles, the Indian Army and Imphal East Police Commandos has led to the recovery of a cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from an underground hideout in Manipur’s Imphal East district.
According to the Assam Rifles, the operation was carried out at Sinam Kom on August 24 after security forces received specific intelligence about the suspected concealment of weapons in the area.
The joint team launched the search operation at around 3 am, deploying metal detectors and an explosive detection dog during the exercise.
The search resulted in the recovery of two rifles, three pistols and other firearms, three hand grenades, a mortar shell, magazines and 37 rounds of ammunition, according to the Assam Rifles.
The recovered arms and explosives were subsequently handed over to Sagolmang Police Station for further investigation and legal action.
The operation marks another coordinated effort by security forces to trace and recover illegally concealed weapons in Manipur, where search and intelligence-based operations have continued in several areas.
Further investigation is underway to determine the origin of the recovered arms and explosives and whether they were linked to any criminal or insurgent activities.
