Mumbai, July 21: After stepping away from playback singing earlier this year, acclaimed singer Arijit Singh is making a much-awaited return to Bollywood music with Yeh Awarapan, the first track from the upcoming film Awarapan 2. The song is scheduled to be released on July 21 across major music streaming platforms.
According to media reports, Arijit’s comeback reunites him with filmmaker Vishesh Bhatt, continuing a creative partnership that has delivered several memorable Bollywood songs over the years. The new track has been composed by Amaal Malik, while Rashmi Virag has penned the lyrics.
The song is expected to capture the emotional depth of Emraan Hashmi’s character, Shivam Pandit, a role that returns in the sequel to the 2007 cult film Awarapan. Reports suggest that Vishesh Bhatt believed Arijit’s expressive vocals were the ideal choice to convey the character’s emotional journey.
A source quoted in media reports said that the music of Awarapan 2 has been carefully crafted to reflect the film’s emotional narrative, with Yeh Awarapan serving as a central musical theme closely connected to the protagonist’s story.
Arijit Singh and Vishesh Films have enjoyed one of Bollywood’s most successful musical collaborations. Their association began with Phir Mohabbat from Murder 2 and later produced several chart-topping songs, including Tum Hi Ho (Aashiqui 2), Muskurane (CityLights), the title tracks of Khamoshiyan and Hamari Adhuri Kahani, as well as Pal from Jalebi.
Awarapan 2 features Emraan Hashmi in the lead role alongside Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, Surendar Vicky, Vijayant Kohli and Atul Kumar. The film is produced by Vishesh Bhatt, directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui. It is scheduled for a theatrical release on August 14.
Arijit’s return comes months after he surprised fans by announcing that he would no longer accept new playback singing assignments. In a social media post shared in January, the singer thanked listeners for their continued love and support while revealing his decision to step away from taking on fresh playback projects.
With Yeh Awarapan, fans will once again hear one of Bollywood’s most celebrated voices, adding further anticipation to the release of Awarapan 2 and its soundtrack.
