Guwahati, July 23: As large parts of Assam continue to grapple with severe flooding, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has announced a relief package of up to ₹2 crore to assist families affected by the disaster. The party’s charitable wing, the Ajmal Foundation, has immediately released ₹50 lakh to kick-start relief operations in the flood-hit regions.
Announcing the initiative, AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal said the worsening flood situation has caused extensive damage across several districts, with many rivers and tributaries flowing above the danger mark and inundating vast stretches of land. Thousands of residents have been displaced as floodwaters continue to affect homes, roads, and agricultural fields.
To assess the situation firsthand, Ajmal is scheduled to visit the flood-affected districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat, where he will interact with affected families and review the ongoing relief efforts.
The Ajmal Foundation has already deployed volunteers across parts of Upper Assam to distribute cooked meals, dry food items, drinking water, and other essential relief materials to people stranded by the floods.
Ajmal said the foundation remains committed to extending humanitarian assistance to all flood victims without any discrimination. He added that while ₹50 lakh has been sanctioned as immediate emergency assistance, the total relief allocation may be increased to ₹2 crore depending on the extent of the damage and the evolving situation on the ground.
The announcement comes as flood relief operations continue across Assam, with government agencies, voluntary organisations, and local communities working to provide food, shelter, and essential support to thousands of affected residents.
