Changlang: Assam Rifles personnel have apprehended one person and recovered approximately 17.2 grams of suspected brown sugar during an intelligence-led operation in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The operation was conducted on September 8 at Phangtip Junction, following intelligence inputs about the suspected movement of narcotics from Khonsa towards Changlang.
Acting on the information, Assam Rifles launched Operation Phangtip-I and set up a Mobile Vehicle Check Post at Phangtip Junction. During the checking operation, personnel intercepted one individual and recovered 14 tubes containing approximately 17.2 grams of suspected brown sugar.
Security personnel also recovered two mobile phones, a sling handbag and a two-wheeler from the spot.
Following the operation, the apprehended individual along with the seized items was handed over to Changlang Police for further investigation and necessary legal action under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The seizure forms part of continued anti-narcotics operations by Assam Rifles in the Northeast, particularly in areas where security agencies are monitoring suspected routes used for the movement of illegal drugs. Changlang shares an international boundary with Myanmar and has been the focus of several recent drug-related enforcement operations.
The latest operation also highlights the role of intelligence-based surveillance and inter-agency coordination in efforts to curb the movement of narcotics in the region.
