Guwahati Police Bust Vehicle Theft Gang, Arrest Seven Including Alleged Mastermind

Guwahati: A major breakthrough in the fight against vehicle theft has been reported by Guwahati Police, with an EGPD team from Basistha Police Station arresting seven people allegedly linked to a four-wheeler theft gang operating as part of an interstate vehicle-lifting network.

According to Guwahati Police, the operation resulted in the arrest of all seven members of the gang, including its alleged mastermind, Rahit Thakuria alias Raj of Nelli.

The other arrested accused have been identified as Naba Das of Kokrajhar; Manoj Thakuria, Asif Khan and Ram Chetri of Mazbat; and Dawood Haque and Bhaskar Kalita of Tezpur.

Vehicles and Other Items Seized

During the operation, police recovered and seized a Brezza car bearing registration number AS03AP4729 and a Pulsar motorcycle bearing registration number AS01EM3625.

The police team also seized bamboo sticks, screwdrivers and seven mobile phones allegedly used in connection with the commission of the crimes.

Probe Points to Interstate Vehicle-Lifting Network

A preliminary investigation has indicated that the accused allegedly stole vehicles and supplied them to an interstate vehicle-lifting network, according to Guwahati Police.

The latest operation is expected to help investigators trace the wider network and determine the extent of the gang’s activities.

Guwahati Police said that further investigation is underway, while legal action has already been initiated against the arrested accused.

The arrests were carried out by the EGPD team of Basistha Police Station, marking another action by Guwahati Police against organised vehicle theft in the city and surrounding areas.
