Shillong, August 18: A solemn tribute was paid to soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of the nation when Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, AVSM, VM, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of the Eastern Air Command, visited the Assam Rifles War Memorial at the Headquarters of the Directorate General of Assam Rifles in Shillong on August 17.
During the visit, Air Marshal Walia laid a wreath at the memorial and remembered the fallen personnel, honouring their courage, sacrifice and commitment to duty. The ceremony highlighted the enduring legacy of those who lost their lives while serving the country.
Following the memorial ceremony, the Eastern Air Command chief interacted with officers and personnel of the Assam Rifles. He appreciated the force for its professionalism and dedication, particularly its continued service in the demanding operational environment of the North Eastern region.
Air Marshal Walia also commended the troops for maintaining a high level of operational preparedness and for their steadfast commitment to their responsibilities.
As part of the visit, three Assam Rifles personnel were recognised for their notable performance and dedication. Deputy Commandant Angam Zimik, Warrant Officer Aswini Patgiri and Rifleman Virendra Singh were presented with the AOC-in-C, Eastern Air Command Commendation Card.
The recognition was awarded in appreciation of their commendable service and contribution to the force.
The visit underscored the importance of remembering the sacrifices of fallen personnel while acknowledging the professionalism and operational readiness of those continuing to serve in the challenging terrain of Northeast India.
