Guwahati: Kamrup Police recovered 108 cattle during an operation against an alleged illegal slaughterhouse at Bezera Simelibari in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday.
According to Sarma, the operation was conducted based on source information and targeted premises allegedly being used by Saifuddin Ahmed, Mehtab Ali and Mehbub Ali to run a slaughterhouse.
One person has been apprehended in connection with the operation, while the other two individuals reportedly fled from the premises, the Chief Minister said.
Sarma, in a post on social media, said the Assam government would not allow any form of illegal slaughter in the state and warned that strict action would be taken against those found involved in such activities.
The operation was carried out by Kamrup Police as part of enforcement action against alleged illegal slaughtering activities. The 108 recovered cattle have been taken into custody by the authorities, while further legal action is expected based on the investigation.
The Chief Minister also tagged Assam Police in his post, underscoring the government’s stated position of taking firm action against illegal slaughter and related violations.
The latest operation comes amid the Assam government’s continued enforcement of laws governing cattle slaughter and meat-related activities. Further details about the case, including the charges against the apprehended person and efforts to trace the two individuals who allegedly escaped, are expected from the police as the investigation progresses.
