Guwahati, August 7: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has stepped up preparations for Census 2027 by organising a Charge-IV training session for enumerators and supervisors at the PWD Convention Centre in Dispur, aimed at enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of the upcoming nationwide population survey.
The training programme was reviewed by Biswajit Pegu, IAS, Director of Census Operations (DCO), Assam, and Chief Principal Census Officer, Assam, who visited the venue to assess the ongoing sessions and interact with the participants.
During the interaction, Pegu encouraged the enumerators and supervisors to carry out their responsibilities with dedication, precision and professionalism, emphasising that accurate data collection is vital for the successful implementation of Census 2027. He also highlighted the important role field personnel play in building a reliable database that supports government planning, public welfare schemes and evidence-based policymaking.
According to GMC, the training programme is designed to equip census officials with the necessary skills and operational knowledge required for field enumeration. The sessions focus on ensuring that data collection is conducted uniformly, accurately and in accordance with census guidelines.
Municipal officials said capacity-building initiatives such as these are essential for strengthening the preparedness of census personnel and ensuring that the nationwide exercise is conducted smoothly and efficiently.
The Census 2027 exercise is expected to provide updated demographic data that will serve as a critical resource for governance, infrastructure planning and the implementation of development programmes across Assam and the rest of the country.
