Arvind Kejriwal Questions Centre Over Rising Fuel Prices, Calls for Cheaper Oil Imports from Russia and Iran

New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal on Monday criticized the Central Government over the continued rise in petrol and diesel prices across the country. He questioned why India is not purchasing cheaper crude oil and gas from Russia and Iran despite both nations being willing to supply fuel at lower prices.

In a video statement, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor alleged that petrol and diesel prices have increased for the fourth time in recent days. According to him, fuel prices have risen by around ₹7 to ₹8 per litre within the last 10 to 15 days, with the latest hike averaging around ₹2.50 per litre across the country.

Kejriwal said that Russia and Iran are ready to provide India with sufficient quantities of oil and gas at cheaper rates. He questioned the reasons behind the Centre’s reluctance to import fuel from the two countries.

Referring to a recent public poll conducted by him, Kejriwal claimed that nearly 97 percent of respondents supported the idea of India purchasing oil and gas from Russia and Iran to reduce fuel costs.

He further stated that rising inflation and fuel prices have placed a heavy burden on citizens across the country. “People are struggling to manage household expenses due to increasing inflation,” he said while questioning what “compulsions” are preventing the Prime Minister from buying cheaper fuel for the benefit of 140 crore Indians.

Kejriwal also urged people to share their views through comments and direct messages regarding why India is not increasing oil and gas imports from Russia and Iran despite public demand and the possibility of lower fuel prices.

The Central Government has not yet issued an official response to Kejriwal’s remarks.
