Members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) staged a protest in Silchar against the alleged NEET paper leak controversy, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and a nationwide ban on the National Testing Agency (NTA).
During the protest, NSUI leaders accused the BJP-led central government of failing to ensure the security of one of the country’s biggest entrance examinations despite spending huge amounts of money on its conduct.
Addressing the media, an NSUI student leader claimed that nearly 22 lakh students appeared for the NEET examination and alleged that many candidates were being forced to face re-examinations due to the failure of the NTA system.
The student leader also alleged that repeated paper leak incidents under the present government point towards serious lapses in the examination process. He questioned how such incidents continue to occur despite massive investments in conducting national-level examinations.
NSUI leaders further alleged that paper leak controversies have surfaced multiple times over the past several years and accused the authorities of failing to take strict action against those responsible. Protesters also raised concerns over possible corruption and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
The organisation demanded that the NTA be blacklisted from conducting examinations across the country and called for immediate reforms in the examination system to protect students’ futures.
During the protest, the student leader also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the government was ignoring the concerns of students while focusing on foreign visits and public appearances abroad.
NSUI members from different parts of the country, including Assam, Delhi, Maharashtra, Telangana and Karnataka, have reportedly been holding demonstrations over the issue. Protesters in Silchar raised slogans against the central government and demanded strict accountability over the alleged examination irregularities.
