Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma visited the historic Deoshal Shivasthan on Wednesday and interacted with the media after offering prayers at the temple.
Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said that he had long wished to visit the temple and had even planned to include it during the Ashirbad Yatra. However, due to various reasons, the visit could not take place earlier.
During his visit, Sharma offered prayers before the Shiva Linga, which he said was established in the 14th century by Gohar Raja. He expressed happiness after visiting the temple and described it as a spiritually significant place.
The Chief Minister also informed that the state government has undertaken multiple initiatives for the development of the temple. According to him, the temple has the potential to emerge as a major centre for spiritual tourism in Assam.
“We have taken several schemes for the development of this temple. In the coming days, it can become an important hub of spiritual tourism,” Sharma said during the interaction.
The Chief Minister also briefly spoke about industrial development in the area, stating that work related to industrial activities should begin soon.
Replying to a question regarding reduction of government convoy vehicles, Sharma said that his convoy has already remained smaller compared to previous chief ministers. He stated that while earlier convoys reportedly consisted of around 22 to 25 vehicles, he generally travels with only six to seven vehicles.
The visit of the Chief Minister to the temple drew attention from devotees and locals, many of whom welcomed the government’s focus on preserving and developing important religious and cultural sites in the state.
